Summary
AMG Vanadium (AMG V) is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our growing organization. AMG Vanadium’s Mechanical Engineer provides advanced industrial maintenance and mechanical technical support for the continuous operation of equipment, machines, and mechanical processes throughout the plant.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Comply with all AMG V safety and environmental requirements, policies, and procedures, including AMG’s Code of Business Conduct
- Embrace and promote the AMG V culture in all day-to-day activities
- Provide technical expertise and leadership.
- Offer assistance with mechanical design, development, testing, implementation, documentation of plant equipment, buildings and utilities.
- Prepare and/or review blueprints, drawings, schematics, and detailed equipment specifications
- Work with Production, Engineering, and Maintenance to ensure continuous operation of plant; test and inspect equipment routinely; complete preventive maintenance checks on production equipment, machines, engines, motors, hydraulic valves/cylinders, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, etc.
- Troubleshoot and identify faulty machine and equipment through observation and testing metrics
- Remove, replace defective parts/equipment, and restore operations to achieve maximum uptime and minimize production downtime; comply with all safety, environmental and code requirements when repairing equipment
- Source replacement parts in accordance with required specification
- Follow scheduled maintenance work order system and participate in planning of required maintenance mechanical support during scheduled outages
- Support preventative maintenance training of non-maintenance team members
- Understand roles and responsibilities in support of production team’s operational goals and metrics
- Utilize principals of lean manufacturing, including 6S, to support operational and process improvements
- Perform other duties as may be required
Qualifications/Skills/Requirements
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude required
- Bachelor's degree preferred or Associate’s degree with experience in related field
- Experience in fast paced heavy manufacturing environment desired; steel or hot metal experience a strong plus; hands-on experience strongly preferred
- Hydraulic experience required
- Pneumatic experience required
- Basic electrical experience required
- Must be receptive and adaptable to change
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills a must (verbal, written, and listening skills)
- Team player and works well in collaborative environment
- Capable of and willing to perform production duties as needed
- Knowledge of or desire to learn lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies
- Demonstrate level of proficiency to work without close supervision
- Ability to work in both hot and cold environments where the temperature can swing rapidly
- Ability to work in physically demanding environment; bending, stooping and lifting of 50 lbs. required
- Strong work ethic and good attention to detail
