Located on Southgate Parkway in Cambridge, AMG Vanadium is a wholly owned subsidiary of AMG Advanced Metallurgical Group N.V., a global leader in the production of highly engineered specialty metal products and advanced vacuum furnace systems. The Cambridge manufacturing facility specializes in the environmentally beneficial conversion of oil refinery and power plant waste products into specialty metals used by global steel producers in construction, automotive, energy transmission, infrastructure and other applications. North America’s ferrovanadium market share leader, AMG Vanadium’s products and services include: Ferovan®, a ferroalloy used to improve the strength of steel, FeNiMoly®, which is sold to the stainless steel industry, Revan™, a calcium aluminate slag used as a conditioner in the production of steel and spent catalyst processing services.
From the raw material stream to the manufacturing process to the 200kW solar facility, AMG Vanadium “walks the talk” of environmental commitment. By using raw materials which would otherwise be discarded as waste, AMG Vanadium encourages environmental stewardship, energy conservation and resource recovery, making it the environmental leader in this global industry. The manufacturing process produces no liquid waste, very minimal solid waste and has an exceptionally high conversion to saleable products ratio. Additionally, the Company has invested millions of dollars in the development of the 200+ acres of naturally occurring and engineered wetlands on the site.
The 200kW solar farm, installed in April 2011, is the most recent tangible demonstration of the Company’s commitment to sustainable development. It is estimated that the solar farm will generate 200,000-250,000 kW hours of electricity annually, enough to support power needs for 20-25 homes.
An ISO 9001:2008 registered facility for years, AMG Vanadium has also received the ISO 14001:2004 environmental registration and OHSAS 18001:2007 safety registration, which endorse the Company’s ongoing commitment to continuous improvement and rigorous environmental and safety compliance.
Having been in Cambridge for 60 years, AMG Vanadium has deep roots in Guernsey County and the surrounding area. As the business has grown and expanded, AMG Vanadium has continued to invest in the Cambridge plant, creating job opportunities for hundreds of employees over the years.
A responsible corporate citizen, the Company remains equally committed to investing in the community that it calls home. “We consider giving back to the community a core value of our Company, and we’ll continue to invest in education, particularly the math, science and engineering disciplines, and in numerous other organizations that enrich the quality of life for our region,” comments Hoy E. Frakes, President.
Commitment to excellence and a desire to be the best is at the heart of the AMG Vanadium vision and mission. “Our goal is simple: to be the leading secondary metal processor in the world for the benefit of all of our stakeholders,” states Mr. Frakes. And that will clearly benefit all of us in Guernsey County!
